The oil tanker “In Akker” conducts a rescue operation offshore the Italian coasts

The SONATRACH Group informs that it received a notification on Tuesday 6 May 2025 around 2.10 pm local time, from  the  International Center of Maritime Rescue Operations in Rome , about a distress signal wich had been sent by a vessel facing difficulties near the coastal borders of Italy.

The oil tanker « In Akker” owned by Hyproc Shipping Company » affiliate of the SONATRACH Group, was at nearly 18 nautical miles of the distress site.

In accordance with the international search and rescue protocols and in direct coordination with the International center of coordination of maritime rescue operations, the tanker changed immediately its direction and headed towards the search zone.

Thanks to this operation conducted jointly with two ships and aircraft of the Italian air and navy forces , the oil tanker «  In Akker” succeeded in locating the ship by following the distress signal.

Due to its proximity to the site and its coordination capacities, the oil tanker «  In Akker” was designated head of the mission and  entrusted with the supervision and management of the intervention and coordination operations.

The vessel’s crew carried out the rescue operation  efficiently and professionally, in close collaboration with the participating units, making it possible to take care of  the persons in danger at around 9 pm, thus, terminating successfully the assistance.
