| The Koudiat Draouch seawater desalination plant, in the province of El Tarf, enters full production phase The SONATRACH Group announces today the full commissioning of the seawater desalination plant located in Koudiat Draouch, in the wilaya of El Tarf, with a total operational capacity of 300,000 m³/day, equivalent to 300 million liters of desalinated water, starting from August 21, 2025, at 4:31 PM. This achievement is the result of a complete technical and experimental process, following the official inauguration of the plant by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid TEBBOUNE, on February 25, 2025. This process included the completion of mechanical tests, technical inspections, and quality assurance procedures, ensuring that the plant complies with the most stringent international standards in terms of safety and quality. With the delivery of this strategic project at full capacity, SONATRACH, through its subsidiary the Algerian Energy Company, reaffirms its strong commitment to the implementation of the first complementary national program aimed at strengthening Algeria’s water security, within record timeframes that reflect a strong national willingness in facing the challenges related to water scarcity. It should be noted that the construction of the plant was entrusted to the Algerian Company for Industrial Project Implementation, as part of a solid national approach based on the mobilization of Algerian skills and the enhancement of their expertise, which once again demonstrated its mastery of all project stages, from preliminary studies to full operational commissioning. The Koudiat Draouche plant represents a strategic achievement in the process of securing the national water supply and reflects SONATRACH’s success in addressing one of the major challenges of the country’s development, thanks to the mobilization of national resources and the adoption of a responsible and sustainable approach in the service of the economy and society. |
