Kick-off the works of the Gastech 2025 conference and exhibition today in the Italian city of Milan, with SONATRACH represented by a high-level delegation led by the Group’s Chairman and CEO, Mr. Rachid HACHICHI.
On this first day, this strategic event featured several conferences addressing current topics and challenges related to natural gas, liquefied natural gas, hydrogen, climate, and artificial intelligence.
As part of these activities, Mr. Rachid HACHICHI participated in a conference alongside Mr. Massoud Salman Moussa, Chairman of the Board of the Libyan National Oil Corporation, on the theme: “Redefining the Role of National Oil Companies in a Period of Energy Uncertainty.”
In his speech, Mr. HACHICHI highlighted the fundamental role of state-owned national companies, true pillars of the national economy and guarantors of energy security. He emphasized the need for these companies to adapt to global changes, particularly in terms of energy transition and the development of clean and renewable energies, while preserving their role in supporting economic sovereignty.
Regarding SONATRACH, Mr. HACHICHI enhanced its role in ensuring energy security, asserting that SONATRACH has become a reliable and secure supplier for the European market, as well as a strategic partner for major global energy companies.
SONATRACH’s CEO also took part in a closed strategic session bringing together around thirty decision-makers from the energy sector. The discussions focused on the theme: ‘Enhancing natural gas efficiency to ensure the balance of the energy market.’
In the key points of his speech, Mr. HACHICHI emphasized the need to use natural gas as a lever to maintain the balance of global energy markets, particularly in the face of the geopolitical evolvements, the emergence of new major consumers, and the increase in energy demand linked to the rise of artificial intelligence.
He also addressed environmental challenges, highlighting the importance of developing clean, low-carbon energy sources. He called for strengthened cooperation between producers and consumers to preserve natural gas as an essential and clean energy source.
Finally, Mr. HACHICHI stressed the paramount role that public institutions and organizations must play in developing a legal and regulatory framework that allows natural gas to fully fulfill its strategic role.
Through his interventions, the Chairman and CEO of SONATRACH highlighted the company’s active role in the future of the gas industry and in maintaining the balance between producers and consumers in the shaping of global energy policies.
