SONATRACH Chairman & CEO meets with the Mauritanian Prime Minister and the Mauritanian Minister of Energy and Petroleum.

As part of his working visit to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, the Chairman and CEO of the SONATRACH Group, Mr. Rachid HACHICHI, accompanied by a large delegation of the company’s Senior executives, continued his official visit to the capital, Nouakchott, in the presence of His Excellency the Algerian Ambassador to Mauritania, Mr. Amine SAID.

Mr. Rachid HACHICHI held bilateral talks today with the Mauritanian Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr. Mohamed OULD KHALED, at the ministry’s headquarters. Discussions focused on ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector, particularly in the areas of exploration, production, and distribution of petroleum products, as well as training.

During this meeting, Mr. HACHICHI stressed the strength of the bilateral relations, praising the existing level of cooperation, particularly in the training of Mauritanian professionals at SONATRACH facilities. He also highlighted the valuable discussions he had the previous day with officials from the Mauritanian Hydrocarbons Company.

The SONATRACH CEO reaffirmed the group’s willingness to explore various investment opportunities in the Mauritanian market, renewing its commitment to expanding partnerships and deepening cooperation in sectors of common interest.

For his part, the Mauritanian Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr. Mohamed Ould Khaled, praised the quality of the relations between the two countries and the advanced level of cooperation in the field of training. He expressed his desire to expand areas of cooperation, particularly in exploration, marketing of petroleum products, and technical cooperation, while calling for continuing mutual visits.

Following this meeting, Mr. Rachid Hachichi was received by the Mauritanian Prime Minister, Mr. Mokhtar Ould Ajay.

On the sidelines of this meeting, Mr. Hachichi emphasized that this meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the shared willingness to elevate economic relations between Algeria and Mauritania to a higher level, through strategic energy projects that benefit both parties and contribute to the sustainable development of the region.

 He also specified that the discussions focused on the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed in January 2025, as well as on the prospects for cooperation in the field of fertilizer production, a sector in which SONATRACH has proven expertise that can support Mauritania’s capacities.

This visit illustrates SONATRACH’s endeavour to expand its cooperation with its partners in Mauritania and to consolidate its role as a leading energy player, committed to shared development and sustainable investment.
