| Oran, 24 June 2025 SONATRACH, the American company Hecate Energy Global Renewables and the company TOSYALI Iron Steel Industry Algeria SPA, signed, today, a Memorandum of Understanding to conduct jointly studies for the development of an integrated project for the production of green hydrogen from renewable energies to supply the steel industry. The signing ceremony took place at the convention center « Ahmed Ben Ahmed” in Oran alongside SONATRACH 12th Scientific and Technical Days. The Memorandum provides for the implementation of an integrated project, in two stages, the first of which is dedicated to working out studies for the assessment of viability, opportunity and profitability of the project and the second phase will be dedicated to the development of the project aiming at producing green hydrogen from renewable energies destined to produce green steel. This integrated project is the outcome of the works carried out within the frame of the Memoranda of understanding concluded in 2024 between SONATRACH and respectively, the companies HGR Energy and TOSYALI. As a reminder, the Memorandum concluded with HGR Energy on 29 April 2024, aimed at conducting a feasibility study of a production project of renewable energies in Algeria. ; Concerning the MoU concluded with TOSYALI on 24 July 2024, it focused on carrying out a feasibility study to produce in Algeria green hydrogen from renewable energies for the manufacture of green steel at the steel complex of TOSYALI Iron Steel Industry Algeria SPA. The signing of this MoU is in line with the national development strategies of renewable energies and hydrogen to which SONATRACH fully contribute through an ambitious program targeting energy transition and promoting the reduction of natural gas consumption and mitigating emissions of greenhouse gas effects.
