The SONATRACH Group announced, today, commissioning at full capacity the seawater desalination station « Fouka 2 » located in the wilaya of Tipaza. This installation with a production capacity of 300 000 cubic meters per day, equivalent to 300 million liters of desalinated water, is destined to meet the drinking water needs of the wilayates of Tipaza, Algiers and Blida
This achievement comes just after a first phase of partial production, launched further to the inauguration of the plant by Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on 22nd February 2025 . Since then, all the technical and experimental stages were completed including the mechanical tests, quality control and the compliance checking with the safety standards.
With the commissioning of this plant at full capacity SONATRACH through its Algerian Energy subsidiary, meets its commitments under the frame of the first complementary national program aiming at reinforcing Algeria’s water security . This success was achieved in a record time , proving the State’s firm willingness to face the challenges relating to decreasing water resources.
It is worth mentioning that this project was carried out in partnership with the company Cosider Canalisations, as part of a national approach based on Algerian expertise , which again desmonstrated capability to master the whole stages of the project, from study to complete exploitation. The full putting on stream of « Fouka2″ plant represents a major step forward in the process of water supply security, and a concrete proof of SONATRACH’s achievement to take up a prime strategic challenge by mobilizing and valorizing national resources and expertise.
