The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer’s delegationvisit to ARZEW Refinery

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the SONATRACH Group, Mr. Nour Eddine DAOUDI, conducted, today, a work and inspection visit to Arzew refinery. This visit, takes place further to the incident which occurred, today at 2.30 AM at the 5L finished oils divisional packaging unit (Unit 3900), and aims to evaluate the situation on the site and closely probe the circumstances of the incident.

During this visit, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer was accompanied by a high-level delegation including the TRC, RPC, and LQS Vice-Presidents, the Chief Executive Officer of the subsidiary NAFTAL, and the SONATRACH Group Executive Director of HSE.

At the scene of the incident, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer could observe the effectiveness of the emergency measures deployed, as well as the organization put in place and the responsiveness of the intervention teams.

Thanks to the effective deployment of the refinery’s firefighting resources, the activation of the Mutual Aid Plan and the mobilization of the Arzew Tactical Command Post resources, finally assisted by the civil protection services, the situation came fully under control by 4:40 AM. No injuries or casualties were reported, in addition, the neighbouring production units were not impacted and are still in operation.

At the end of his visit, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the SONATRACH Group insisted upon the absolute necessity of complying with HSE requirements at production facilities, while expressing his gratitude and sincere thanks to all the response teams, refinery technical staff, and everyone who contributed to address the incident.
