The E&P Activity occupies a central place in SONATRACH’s core businesses and covers prospection, research, exploration , development and exploitation operations of oil & gas deposits.
This Activity is carried out by SONATRACH alone or in partnership, in compliance with the law governing the hydrocarbon activities and other legal provisions.The Algerian mining domain—where SONATRACH’s Exploration and Production activities are primarily concentrated—covers 1.5 million km², still largely under explored , offering a potential of resources both conventional, non conventional and offshore.

In a global outlook marked by the volatility of hydrocarbon prices and a sustained demand , both on the national and international level, SONATRACH pays the greatest interest to the development of its Exploration-Production Activity (EP)
The company continues to allocate a significant part of its annual investment budget to hydrocarbon research, development, exploitation and production .
To ensure the renewal of its resources and increase the number of new discoveries , SONATRACH has set itself the objective to drill 100 wells per year.
As part of its growth strategy, SONATRACH targets to double its yearly volume of discoveries.
To accelerate its development program in Exploration-Production, SONATRACH reinforces its partnership policy with major international oil and gas operators.
For SONATRACH, the partnership option allows sharing risks related to the prospection operations, ensure the renewal of reserves, thus, strengthening the country’s energy security on the mid and long term.
Resorting to partnership contributes to the global effort of the company targeting the exploration of new territories and increasing its hydrocarbon production.
This effort of growth is particularly promising in natural gas : third gas supplier to Europe after Russia and Norway , Algeria projects on the mid-term to increase its gas production to more than 200 billion cubic meters per year.
