Bejaïa, December 1st, 2025
SONATRACH Group announces the attainment of full-capacity operation of the Tighremt seawater desalination plant, located in the Wilaya of Bejaïa, with a production capacity of 300,000 m³ per day.
This milestone follows the completion of all technical protocols established since the plant’s initial commissioning in June 2025. The gradual ramp-up of operations was carried out with accuracy and precision, in accordance with international standards in the sector, particularly those related to equipment safety and efficiency.
As a reminder, the Tighremt seawater desalination plant, located in the municipality of Toudja, which was completed by the National Pipeline Company, a subsidiary of SONATRACH, is one of the five (05) plants included in the first complementary national program launched in 2022 by the President of the Republic, Mister Abdelmadjid TEBBOUNE. This program aims to meet citizens’ needs for drinking water and to strengthen the country’s water security.
The Tighremt plant will contribute to meeting the drinking water needs of the population of Bejaïa, as well as those of the wilayas of Setif, Bouira, and Bordj Bou Arreridj.
Through this major achievement, SONATRACH, via its subsidiary Algeria Desalination Company, reaffirms its longstanding commitment to effectively contributing to the sustainability of water resources. It also underlines its determination to continue implementing projects that support national water security, in a context marked by climate challenges and environmental conditions at both regional and international levels.
