Algiers, 19 July 2026,
Under the framework of the official visit made by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid TEBBOUNE, to the Federal Republic of Germany, SONATRACH and the German company VNG, signed on Thursday 16 July 2026, a contract for Natural Gas supply.
This contract was signed by Mr. Nour Eddine DAOUDI, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of the SONATRACH Group , and Mr. Ulf HEITMULLER, Chairman of the Executive Board of the German energy Group VNG, during a ceremony co-chaired by Mr. Mohamed ARKAB, State Minister, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mr. Frank WETZEL, German State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, with the attendance of the State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, Mr. Jochen FLASBARTH.
This contract reinforces the business relationship between SONATRACH and VNG through the expansion of natural gas deliveries as from 1st January, 2027, to the German market.
It is worth recalling, that SONATRACH and VNG are partners in the project ‘’Algeria to Europe Hydrogen Alliance’’ (ALTEH2A) and ‘’SoutH2 Corridor’’, aiming at producing hydrogen in Algeria to be exported to Europe. Both companies are also bound by a Memorandum of Understanding to explore jointly the opportunities of cooperation in areas of common interest, including green hydrogen and reduction of methane emissions.
The signing of this contract confirms the strong cooperation between SONATRACH and VNG, testifying to the excellent relations between Algeria and Germany.
