Berlin, 12 November 2025,
The Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of SONATRACH Group, Mr. Nour Eddine DAOUDI accompanied by a delegation of Senior executives from the Group, took part, today, in Berlin in a major event dealing with the presentation of the progress concerning Algeria to Europe Hydrogen Alliance (ALTEH2A) and SoutH2 Corridor carried out jointly by the companies SONATRACH and SONELGAZ (Algeria), VNG AG (Germany), SNAM and Sea Corridor (Italy), and Verbund Green Hydrogen (Austria). This project aims to produce hydrogen in Algeria for export to Europe.
This event gathered high level representatives from the energy sector in Algeria, Germany, Italy and Austria who focused their meeting on the progress achieved within the framework of this project and exchanged views on the conditions required for the success of this strategic cooperation.
It should be noted that Alliance ALTEH2A is underpinned by significant renewable energy resources in Algeria and explores opportunities of green hydrogen production to supply the European market via the South Corridor, thus, creating new opportunities for sustainable growth and international cooperation.
As a reminder, the projects, as part of the SouthH2Corridor, have been recognized by the European Commission as Projects of Common Interest (PCI), confirming their strategic scope for the cross- border energy infrastructure. In January 2025, the governments of Algeria, Tunisia, Italy, Austria and Germany reaffirmed their joint commitment through the signing of a statement for the political support to this Corridor.
In October 2024, a Memorandum of Understanding was, also, signed between SONATRACH (Algeria), SONELGAZ (Algeria), VNG (Germany), SNAM (Italy), SEACORRIDOR (Italy), and VERBUND GREEN HYDROGEN (Austria). This agreement deals with the joint execution of necessary studies across the hydrogen value chain to assess the feasibility and profitability of an integrated project aiming to produce green hydrogen in Algeria in order to supply the European market via the “SoutH2 Corridor.”
For SONATRACH, developing an integrated hydrogen sector represents a historic opportunity to strengthen energy cooperation between Algeria and Europe, while at the same time contributing significantly to the global impetus given to clean energy and sustainable development.
